Rockdale Ilinden FC: A Macedonian-Australian Success Story
Established in 1969 by passionate Macedonian Australians, Rockdale Ilinden FC stands today not only as a successful semi-professional football club in NSW, but also as a vibrant centre of Macedonian-Australian community life.
From its earliest days, the club chose the name “Ilinden” in honour of the 1903 Ilinden uprising, a bold declaration of heritage, freedom and community identity. Over the decades, Rockdale Ilinden has grown its footprint: developing youth players, competing at the highest level of state football, and serving as a gathering point for Macedonian-Australian families and supporters.
The club’s notable achievements include a Premiership/Championship double in 2002, and becoming Premiers of the NPL NSW in 2024. Each success helps raise the profile of Macedonian Australians in Australian sport, and inspires new generations to both remember their roots and reach for the stars.
At the Australian Macedonian Council NSW, we’re proud to recognise Rockdale Ilinden FC as a beacon of Macedonian-Australian achievement, where heritage meets performance, and where our community can continue to thrive in the spirit of “Ilinden”.
