Bankstown City Lions: Macedonian-Australian Football Legacy

Founded from humble roots by Macedonian immigrants, Bankstown City Lions has grown into one of south-western Sydney’s landmark football clubs. For the Macedonian-Australian community, the club is more than just a sporting team, it is a home, a tradition and a source of pride.

From the early days of Yagoona Macedonia to the dominant “Lions” era of the 1990s, Bankstown’s red and black continue to represent excellence in New South Wales football, with the landmark 1994 treble symbolising both sporting mastery and community unity.

The home ground at Jensen Oval remains a hub for local footballers, families and supporters, cultivating the next generation of talent and reinforcing Macedonian-Australian presence in the Australian football landscape.

At the Australian Macedonian Council (NSW) we salute Bankstown City Lions as a beacon of how heritage, sport and community merge, where every goal, every match, and every season honours the legacy of Macedonian migration, identity and aspiration.
